Statement concerning the erasure of Mr Michael Shine

Monday 24 November 2008

The President of the High Court, Mr Justice Johnson, earlier today directed that Mr Michael Shine's name be erased from the General Register of Medical Practitioners. The decision to erase Mr Shine's name followed a twelve day Inquiry before the Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Committee into allegations of professional misconduct.
The Inquiry concluded on 21st July 2008 and the Fitness to Practise Committee found that Mr Shine was guilty of professional misconduct in respect of three patients while he was practising as a Consultant Surgeon in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. On 30th October 2008 the Medical Council confirmed the findings of the Committee and decided to erase Mr Shine from the Register. This decision was confirmed by the High Court today.
