Pre-Registration Examination System (PRES) Level 3

PRES Level 3 is a clinical based assessment of Communication, Interpretation and Practical Skills. Candidates must pass PRES Level 2 before being permitted to sit PRES Level 3. Please refer to the PRES Handbook for further details regarding the PRES Level 3.

Booking the PRES Level 3

The Medical Council endeavors to give as much notice as possible prior to the date of the PRES Level 3. When a date is confirmed for the PRES Level 3, all eligible candidates will be notified by email. The exam dates and application form will be available on this webpage and will also be emailed to eligible candidates.  The PRES Level 3 is usually held two to three times per year depending on demand in Dublin, Cork, Galway or Limerick.

Applying for a place in the PRES Level 3

The next set of PRES Level 3 examinations will take place in Spring 2017. All eligible candidates will be contacted by email as soon as dates and venues for these exams have been confirmed. This email will contain information on how and when candidates can apply for these exams. Information will also be available on the examinations page of our website.

Results of Autumn 2016 Examinations

Results from the Autumn PRES Level 3 examinations are now available online. A list of candidates who were successful in these examinations can be found here . Candidates are identified by their Medical Council reference number only. Candidates who were unsuccessful in these exams will be provided with a breakdown of their results by email.

Appeal of Autumn 2016 PRES Level 3 Results

Candidates who wish to appeal their Level 3 examination result should complete an appeal form and return it to the Medical Council no later than Friday, 30th December.
Candidates who are considering making an appeal should ensure that they have read the important notice accompanying the application form in relation to the grounds an appeal can be made on. Please note that a fee of €65 applies to all appeal applications. Applicants who wish to pay by debit or credit card should ensure to include a valid payment form with their appeal application.

Updating Personal Details

If any personal details (e.g. address, passport number, passport expiry date) change while a candidate is eligible to take the PRES, the candidate should notify the Medical Council as soon as possible by emailing quoting their Medical Council reference number.
