Applying for a new period of Registration

Registration in the Trainee Specialist Division is for:

  • Interns completing their internship training
  • Medical practitioners who have completed their internship training and are undertaking postgraduate training in recognised training posts.

When an intern is granted internship registration, they recieve a Certificate of Registration for one year. If they require a longer a period of registration, they must apply to the Medical Council to renew their registration. For more information please contact the Medical Council by email at registration@mcirl.ie.

When a medical practitoner practices in recognised postgraduate training posts, they must apply each time they have an offer of a post, prior to practising in that post, using the form TSR1. You can also apply and pay online by clicking here. Only currently registered doctors paying online by credit card or laser card can submit an online TSR1 application.

Applying for a new period of Trainee Specialist Registration

  • If you have received your Acceptance Letter and have a job offer, you can then apply to be registered in the Trainee Specialist Division of the Register for the first time. You must complete Form TSR1.pdf
  • If you wish to apply for a new period of trainee specialist registration you must complete Form TSR1.pdf
  • If you wish to apply to voluntarily withdraw from a training post you must complete Form TSR2.pdf
  • If you were previously registered in the Trainee Specialist Division but you have not been registered in a training post in the last five months (or longer) and you have not been registered in another Division of the Register during that time you must complete Form TSR3.pdf

Applying for Internship Registration

  • If you wish to apply for Internship Registration you must complete Form IR1.pdf
  • Medical practitioners intending to practise in an intern training post should inform the Medical Council of the details of that post as soon as possible, using the Form IR2.pdf
