Public Consultation on amended Rules Specifying Pre-Registration Examinations and Exemptions for the Purposes of Establishing Eligibility for Trainee Specialist Registration and/or General Registration

The Medical Council intends to amend the Rules Specifying Pre-Registration Examinations and Exemptions for the Purposes of Establishing Eligibility for Trainee Specialist Registration and/or General Registration pursuant to the Medical Practitioners Act 2007. These rules are made pursuant to the provisions of section 11 and sections 46(b), 48(3)(a) and 48(4)(a) of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 ("the Act") for the purpose of specifying pre-registration examinations and exemptions for the purposes of establishing eligibility for trainee specialist registration and/or general registration for medical practitioners applying to be registered in the Register of Medical Practitioners ("the Register").

In meeting its statutory obligations in this regard, the Council is publishing the amended rules in draft form and, in accordance with section 11 of the Act, is inviting members of the public, any organisation and any other body to comment on the draft. Accordingly, as required under section 11(8) of 'the Act', the Medical Council is now publishing the amended Rules, for public consultation.

The Medical Council is inviting you to submit your views on these amended rules. Following this consultation process and consideration of submissions received, the amended rules will be reviewed and finalised.

When published, the rules will define the manner in which pre-registration examinations and any exemptions will apply when considering applications by medical practitioners to be registered in the Trainee Specialist Division and/or General Division of the Register maintained by the Medical Council in the Republic of Ireland.
