The Importance of the Annual Declaration

The Annual Declaration seeks information from each medical practitioner of their current situation in relation to their ongoing practise of medicine. The declaration questions are in effect a repeat of questions practitioners are asked when making a first-time application for registration. In answering these questions practitioners are validating their ability to practise medicine and as a result the integrity of the register is maintained.

Completion of the declaration is seen as an integral part of the registration renewal process and the Council will be pursuing practitioners who fail to provide completed declarations. All practitioners must ensure they provide a declaration to the Council at the time of renewing their registration. The declaration will be available for completion through the Council’s website at the time of registration renewal in summer 2011. A paper declaration will be provided for those who are unable to access the online version.

Full details of the Annual Declaration requirements will be provided to all practitioners as part of the annual registration renewal process.
