Important Reminder - Professional Indemnity

Reminder Regarding Paragraph 57 of the “Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Medical Practitioners”  (8th Edition) – Professional Indemnity

57.1 “You must have adequate professional indemnity cover for all healthcare services you provide.”

It is important for all doctors to remember that complaints before the Medical Council under the provisions of Parts 7, 8 and 9 of the Medical Practitioners Act are not covered by the Clinical Indemnity Scheme operated by the State Claims Agency.  Registered medical practitioners ought, therefore, take steps to have in place professional indemnity cover so that they can be assisted, if the occasion arises, to respond to complaints made to the Medical Council.
