Clinical Site Inspections to Commence by End of Year

In our Statement of Strategy 2014-2018, a core activity is the promotion of high-quality learning environments. Forming part of this strategy will be the development of criteria for inspections of clinical sites which are involved in the delivery of specialist training. This will complement our work in the accreditation of postgraduate medical training by detailing our expectations of clinical sites as learning environments.

A consultation with partner organisations has just concluded which sought views of educators, employers and policy makers on the potential criteria which Council could apply to training sites, as well as the best practical way to progress inspections.

Once all views received during the consultation phase have been considered, we will finalise these criteria and then conduct a programme of inspections to evaluate how well these expectations are being met.

This work, alongside feedback from doctors in training will further enhance our role in postgraduate education, increasing our oversight of training in practice settings.
