Medical Council Enhances Registration Services

The Medical Council today (22nd April 2014), published a new Charter of Expectations document, formalising its commitments to improving service in handling registration queries.

In an average year the Medical Council processes approximately:

  • 1,200 new applications to enter the register;

  • 17,000 applications to retain registration;

  • 2,000 requests for certificates of current professional status;

  • 20,000 registration related telephone enquiries;

  • 5,000 registration related email enquiries.  

Speaking today, Medical Council CEO, Caroline Spillane, said:“All doctors rightfully expect efficient and professional service in our handling of registration queries, and this charter formalises our commitments to making the registration process as accessible and effective as possible.”   

The finalisation of the charter follows consultation with doctors and other partner organisations.  

Ms Spillane continued:“We are committed to continuously enhancing our processes and working collaboratively with doctors to bring about improvements.  This charter sets out the reciprocal expectations for our services and we are also encouraging feedback from all doctors through our website.”
