Director of Corporate Services - Principal Officer

Established under the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978, as amended in 2007, the Medical Council is the regulatory body for members of the medical profession.  Its primary role is to protect the public by promoting and better ensuring high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence among registered medical practitioners.

Key responsibilities of the Council include:

  • Maintaining the four Divisions of the Register of Medical Practitioners, a register of all medical practitioners legally entitled to work in Ireland
  • Ensuring high standards of medical education and training
  • Setting standards for the maintenance of professional competence
  • Promoting good medical practice
  • Investigating complaints against medical practitioners

The Medical Council is undergoing significant change and is seeking a mission-focused, seasoned, strategic, and process-minded leader with experience scaling an organization, leading an executive management team, and developing a performance culture among a group of diverse functions. The Director of Corporate Services must be a leader who is able to help others at the Medical Council deliver measurable, cost-effective results that make the organisation's vision a reality.

Responsibilities Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Corporate Services will lead all internal operations and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Working in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team and Council, create the strategic plan and implement new processes and approaches to achieve it
  • Coordinate the annual operations plan and budget
  • Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against goals for the organization
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders: present to the Council and standing committees at regular meetings and liaise with Department of Health
  • Lead and manage the Directorate's management team, who have the following responsibilities:
    • Strategy & Communications
    • Corporate Governance
    • Facilities & Procurement
    • Finance
    • Information Communication Technology
    • Business Process Improvement & Project Management
    • Human Resources

Role requirements:

  • Proven experience of staff management, including leadership of diverse teams and the prudent use of resources
  • Experience of managing a significant workload
  • Ability to work on own initiative with strong multitasking capabilities
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A proven track record of working in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong communication and written style with forensic attention to detail
  • Ability to supervise and manage own and others workloads

Qualifications:

Applicants for this post should have at least three years satisfactory experience in a similar role within a professional body, a health service provider or similar organisation.  Applicants should hold a relevant third level qualification and must be able to demonstrate an ability to manage a significant work load and diverse teams of people. Applicants must also be prepared to undertake additional duties from time to time and as required by the Medical Council.  The ability to make a significant contribution to the development of policy is a key requirement.

Salary Scales:

Salary will be determined in line with the following scale:

€79,401 to €91,624 with LS1 €94,4101 and LS2 €97,1942 less statutory deductions.

Additional information:

  • The post-holder will be based in the Medical Council’s offices in Kingram House, Kingram Place, Dublin 2 but may be required to work at an alternative location within Ireland at the Council’s discretion without additional compensation.  
  • Due to limited spaces, parking is not guaranteed with priority given to Council members. 
  • Employment is on a full time basis.  The hours of duty will be based on a 37 hour week Monday to Friday. 
  • The Medical Council does not provide for flexi-time.
  • Employees are required to be flexible in their position in line with the Council’s mobility policy.
  • Staff may be required from time to time to work outside of the core hours listed above.
  • Staff may be required to travel as part of the role and outside of the core hours listed above.

Tá an Chomhairle ar an gcomhlacht rialála do ghairm an leighis.  Is é príomhról na Comhairle an pobal a chosaint trí chaighdeáin arda iompair ghairmiúil agus oideachais ghairmiúil, oiliúna gairmiúla agus inniúlachta gairmiúla a chur chun cinn, agus a chinntiú ar shlí níos fearr, i measc liachleachtóirí cláraithe.

Áirítear ar phríomhfhreagreachtaí na Comhairle:
