Online Payment FAQ
How can I pay the annual registration fee?
You can pay your annual registration fee online with a Credit or Debit Card. Direct debits are no longer being processed by the Medical Council.
Please note that due to the EU revised Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2), all online payments within the EEA are now subject to Strong Customer Authentication (SCA). When paying your annual retention fee, you will be directed to a separate page to verify your payment. Please ensure that your cardholder bank has your current mobile phone number and that you have entered this number on the billing page before proceeding to payment. The issuing bank may send the cardholder a once off code to this number for verification.
I cannot enter my billing address
Please ensure that you are using a desktop or a laptop to complete the payment. You should ensure that you are entering your correct address, that is, the address associated with your bank account. Please manually fill your address and do not allow auto fill to input these details.
My billing number is not being accepted
Please ensure that you are entering the correct country code and mobile number. The country code should be entered in the first box and the remainder of the number in the second box. For example, when using an Irish mobile number, enter Country code [353] and Phone Number [86XXXXXXX].
What is a PAN/PAC?
The PAN/PAC is the 5 digit number set up to log into your bank account on your laptop or phone. Banks may now ask you to verify an online payment by entering 3 digits from you PAN/PAC as well as the verification code they send to your phone. It will specify which 3 digits they are looking for in small writing before the box you enter it into.
I'm not receiving the verification code to my phone
In order to receive the code, you must ensure that you are set up for ‘Strong Customer Authentication’ (SCA) with your bank. Your bank must have a valid current mobile phone number for you. Please check with your bank to ensure they have your current mobile phone number. You also need to ensure that you are using a card that is in your name, as you may have trouble if using somebody else’s card, or a company card, unless you are the owner.
I'm receiving the code, but it will not work
Please ensure that you are entering the code correctly, within a reasonable timeframe, and in the correct place. Please complete the payment on a laptop or PC, rather than a phone or tablet.
