Are you interested in playing a key role in patient safety in Ireland? Would you like to protect the public by contributing to the future of medical regulation?
If so, you may wish to know that the Medical Council is currently seeking expressions of interest from relevant parties to serve on its Committees of Council.

All expressions of interest should be submitted on the appropriate Expression of Interest form, along with an up-to-date CV to committees@mcirl.ie by 5pm on 30 April 2026.
Committees of the Medical Council
The Medical Council, which is the regulatory body for doctors, has a statutory role in protecting the public by promoting the highest professional standards amongst doctors practising in Ireland
To support the Council in delivering its significant role and remit, the Medical Council has put in place a governance structure, supported by committees, focusing on particular aspects of the Council’s work.
The committees that the Medical Council is recruiting for are as follows:
- Audit & Risk Committee
- Education & Training Committee
- Fitness to Practise Committee
- Preliminary Proceedings Committee
- Registration and Continuing Practise Committee

Why join a Medical Council Committee
Being a Committee member is both dynamic and challenging, and members will play an important role in the overall health system in Ireland. Committee Membership offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the protection of patients and to the integrity of medical regulation in Ireland. We are looking for individuals who bring diverse perspectives, professional experience and a genuine commitment to patient safety. Full training will be provided to all committee members.
