A Patient Advocate is somebody who can act on the patient's or the patient's family's behalf when dealing with the hospital or healthcare service.  A patient advocate can represent the views of those seeking information or making complaints when required. National Advocacy Service for people with disabilities

The National Advocacy Service (NAS) is an organisation which helps adults with disabilities. If you have a disability, like a physical or intellectual disability, one of our staff could help you with an issue you are having. NAS provides a free and confidential advocacy service to adults with a disability, aged 18 years and over.

Patient Advocacy Service

The Patient Advocacy Service is an independent, free and confidential service that provides information and support to people who want to make a formal complaint about an experience they have had in a Public Acute Hospital or Nursing Home. The Service also offers a support to a person in the aftermath of a Patient Safety Incident. The Patient Advocacy Service is wholly funded by the Department of Health and therefore fully independent of the HSE and all other service providers.

Sage Advocacy

SAGE Advocacy is the national service supporting older people, vulnerable adults, and healthcare patients in specific situations where no other assistance is available. We provide free and confidential information, support, and advocacy across the Republic of Ireland, ensuring independent representation for clients, guided by quality standards. Our motto is: "Nothing About You / Without You."

Patients for Patient Safety Ireland

Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) is a World Health Organisation initiative aimed at improving patient safety in health care. Their objective is to encourage Health Care Providers to acknowledge patients and their families as an untapped resource for information and recognise the patient experience as a learning tool.

Age Action Ireland

Age Action is Ireland's leading advocacy organisation for older people and ageing. As well as informing and influencing policy we provide practical programmes to support older people to age in place and combat digital exclusion through our Care and Repair, Getting Started and Information Service.

Cairde

Community development organisation, working to tackle inequalities among ethnic minority communities by improving ethnic minority access to health services, and ethnic minority participation in health planning and delivery.

Citizens Information Board

The Citizens Information Board is the statutory body which supports the provision of information, advice and advocacy on a broad range of public and social services.

Dublin Rape Crisis Centre

The services include a national 24-hour helpline, one to one counselling, court accompaniment, outreach services, training, awareness raising and lobbying.

EPIC (Empowering Young People in Care in Ireland)

EPIC aims to advance the interests and welfare of children and young adults in the care system by advocating on their behalf, providing information and advice, providing opportunities for participation and influencing through regional and national councils and developing policies on and conducting research into issues affecting children and young adults in the care system.

HIQA 

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) is an independent organisation that promotes safety and quality in the provision of health and social care services for the benefit of the health and welfare of the public. While HIQA is unable to investigate individual complaints about a health or social care service under the Health Act 2007, we listen to what you have to say and use your feedback to establish if a service is safe, effective, caring, and well managed.

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is Ireland’s national human rights and equality institution. The IHREC is an independent public body that promotes and protects human rights and equality in Ireland.

Peer Advocacy in Mental Health

The Irish Advocacy Network CLG (now trading as Peer Advocacy in Mental Health) is an island-wide, independent, mental health organisation led by people with personal experience of mental health challenges. Our services promote recovery by offering peer advocacy, information and support to clients. Ultimately, we work to enable people experiencing challenges to their mental health to self-advocate; in other words, supporting them in having their voice heard, grow in confidence, and claim their rights.

SHEP Advocacy Project (Cork Advocacy Service)

Our primary focus is on Independent Group Advocacy Facilitation in residential and community settings that serve adults with disabilities including older people in nursing homes and people using mental health services.
