Supervised Registration
Registration in the Supervised division is granted to doctors who have been offered a post that has been approved by the national Health Service Executive (HSE), which has specific supervisory arrangements. Before you apply for registration with the Medical Council, the HSE should advise whether supervised registration is required. Please be advised you should not apply for Supervised Registration unless a Supervised post has already been offered to you as application fees are non-refundable.
Applicants for registration in the supervised division are required to pass or be exempt from computer based pre-registration examinations. Details of qualifications that will exempt an applicant from having to sit the PRES for the purpose of Supervised Registration only can be found here.
Application Process
To submit an application for Supervised Registration, please create an online registration account. You will be asked to provide your EPIC ID No. for verification of your basic medical qualification, details of your internship and evidence of a qualification that is accepted for the supervised division.
You will be prompted to upload the following documents to your online portal before you submit the application fee:
- Notarised/attested copy of your current passport by a Notary Public or attested by a Justice of the Peace/Commissioner for Oaths/Member of An Garda Síochána/Notary Cam (documents signed by a Police Officer from another State are not acceptable.

Evidence of effective communication skills for example; Academic IELTS certificate.

Other documents required
An original Certificate of Current Professional Status, dated within the last 3 months sent directly to the Medical Council from all overseas registration authorities with whom the doctor has been registered. This must be sent directly from your issuing authority to cogs@mcirl.ie.
Duration of Registration
Registration in the supervised division is for a aggregate of two years in a supervised post. The registration year runs from 1st July to 30th June of the following year and a doctor can be registered at any time during this period. A registration fee will be payable once you are declared eligible for registration and a reminder will be sent out to you when your next fee is due. A section 50 form should be submitted by the clinical site on your behalf detailing information about the Supervised post.
Leaving a post before it expires
If you leave your post before it expires, you must cease practising medicine in Ireland, and must complete the SUPDIV2 form and return it to the Medical Council at registration@mcirl.ie
